Toothpick Holders

Toothpick holders are not all made from glass, but enough of them are it seemed reasonable to include them on a site about art glass. They are typically small and relitively easy to make so most of the West Virginia glass makers included them in their line of products.

Toothpick holders make a good theme crossover product for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) purposes. Because they were made from glass, silver, porcelain, and other materials it is easy to creats on-topic links to non-glass sites. For example, if I also have a porcelain figurine site, I can link to it from a page on the toothpick site which features porcelain toothpicks.

ToothpickHolders.org is the website we are building to help visitors identify and value toothpick holders. We will be publishing pictures of toothpick holders from our own collection. We will also set up automated searchs with filters of current Ebay auctions. This organization and the auction pictures should help novice visitors quickly identify their toothpick holders. Once they know exactly what they have they can follow auctions for identical items and see what they sell for.

Inkwells

Inkwells were a necessity until the recent (relitively) invention of the ball point pen. Since they were used by everyone who could write they were manufactured in an incredable variety. Not all were glass, but there are enough glass inkwells I thought a network of glass sites would be incomplete without them.

From a Search Eninge Optimization (SEO) standpoint, products that cross several thematic boundaries like inkwells is very useful. They provide a nice, logical bridge between glass, silver, and porcelain antiques websites because inkwells were made from all of these.

We have started to explore the wonderful world of inkwells at Inkwells.biz but it needs more work to make it the valuable reference for inkwell identification and valuation which we plan.

Glass owls make a popular collectible. The glassmakers know this so most companies produced at least a few owls at one time or another. Because the the "wise old owl" cliche and the weight of glass many are made to be used as book ends.

GlassOwls.com is set up to show off a variety of glass owls from a variety of companys. It needs more work to become the center for identification and valuation we plan.

Cut Glass

Cut glass is made by grinding away some of the glass to leave a design with precise geometric precision and very sharp edges. It is often done using lead glass as the starting point. With almost 4,000 auctions going at any one time it is clearly a product category where some organization and analysis would be useful.

Cut-Glass.org is where we will be subdividing the field of cut glass into manageable chunks so visitors can quickly use the pictures to identify their own cut glass. Once they have an identification confirmed they can follow selected sales of similiar or identical items to determine the actual market value of their antique cut glass piece(s).

Cruets are not necessarily made from glass, but enough are I thought it reasonable to include the cruet website with other glass websites. There are over 1,000 cruet auctions at any one time so there is a need for simplification, identification and valuation services.

Cruets.org will be getting converted to run the Thesis them like this site and that will provide the tools and design to let me display a wide range of cruet pictures. I will also be able to show visitors how to detrmine the value of their cruets once they are identified.
